A novel approach to the localization and estimation of radioactivity in contaminated waste packages via imaging techniques

Dismantling nuclear power plants entails the production of a large amount contaminated (or potentially contaminated) material whose disposal is crucial importance. Most end products have to be stored in special repositories but it can happen that some them are slightly or not at all, making possible free release them. One approach measurements uses Large Clearance Monitors, chambers surrounded by plastic scintillation detectors allow decision about clearance waste packages up 1000 kg.
